Slow Mornings at Common Ground, Siargao

May 12, 2026 | 8:00 PM

On the quieter north side of Siargao, mornings feel different.

The roads are calmer, the beaches are less crowded, and cafés become less about quick coffee stops and more about spending time. Common Ground Cafe fits perfectly into that rhythm.

Located near Pacifico Beach, the café feels less like a commercial brunch spot and more like a shared space built around community. Open, relaxed, and surrounded by greenery, it combines yoga, homemade food, and slow island mornings into one place.

It is easy to spend an entire morning there without noticing time pass.

The ideal schedule almost creates itself: yoga at 8am, breakfast at 9, then staying a little longer with a book, coffee, or conversation. Others leave for a surf session at Pacifico before returning later for brunch. The café naturally moves with the pace of the area around it.

Most on the menu is plant-based and homemade, which becomes obvious the moment the food arrives. Nothing feels overly processed or rushed. The dishes are simple in concept but detailed in flavour.

The Cheeky Monkey shake immediately stood out — thick, cold, and refreshing, tasting somewhere between coconut milk and chocolate blended into something richer. It felt substantial enough to be breakfast on its own.

The latik sourdough pancakes were another highlight. Soft, slightly crisp around the edges, and topped with a caramelised coconut syrup that added sweetness without becoming heavy. The flavour felt distinctly local while still fitting the café’s clean, relaxed style.

The gourmet vegetable sourdough sandwich completed the meal. Beautifully plated, layered with fresh vegetables, and tied together by a homemade pesto sauce that easily became the strongest flavour on the table.

What makes Common Ground memorable is not just the food itself, but the atmosphere around it. The owners are welcoming, locals stop by casually, conversations happen naturally, and the entire space feels designed for people to stay rather than leave quickly.

It is the kind of café that becomes part of the day rather than just one stop within it.

And after one visit, the menu immediately feels like something worth returning for.
